Sockeyes book ticket to Gold Medal game with 7-3 win over Thunder Bay

          VS.

Richmond has officially booked their ticket to the 2013 Keystone Cup Gold Medal game with a huge 7-3 come from behind win against the Thunder Bay Northern Hawks. Richmond scored four power play goals in a penalty ridden game en route to their fourth win of the tournament..

The game didn't get started off too well for Richmond as they let in the first goal of the game for the second straight time. Sheldon Elvish found Corel Hamel out front on a nice centering feed on the power play to give the Northern Hawks the lead. It was extremely short lived though, as the Sockeyes won the centre-ice faceoff took it down the ice and scored just 13 seconds later to tie the game at 1. Justin White scored on a mad scramble in front, the assist went to Stephen Cambell. Thunder Bay were making some nice passing plays in the first period and got the lead back with another power play goal by Cody Fraser to give them the 2-1 lead. Once again Richmond would play comeback and score two more goals before the period was out for the 3-2 lead heading into the second frame. Rudi Thosteinson and Daniell Lange added two power play goal for the Sockeyes.

The game got a bit out of hand in the second period as penalties littered the ice. 5 minor penalties for Richmond and 10 for Thunder Bay. At the end of the game there were three Hawks kicked out of the game, Kye Bruekelman for slashing, Nick Brimmer for three stick infractions and head coach Jeff Ricciardi came onto the ice to confront the head referee and was ejected from the game as well. All-in-all it was a very tough period for the Hawks.

Richmond capitalized on the power play two more times as Sam Chichak and Dominic Centis got on the board. Richmond was feeding off the opportunities given to them on the man-advantage. Thunder Bay also added their third goal of the game. The period ended with the Sockeyes leading by a 5-3 score.

The third was just more of the same for Richmond as Rudi Thorsteinson added two more goals to give his team the 7-3 win and go undefeated through four games in the Keystone Cup. His hat-trick goal was thanks to Jake Roder unselfishly giving Rudi the puck at the blueline to score his third goal. Rudi has had an unbelievable tournament scoring 8 goals and 4 assists to lead all players in scoring at this tournament.

Danton Heinen continued to produce assists as he had three in this game and Daniell Lange had a goal and two assists. The grinder line of Austin Adamson, Stephen Campbell and Justin White also got on the board again and continue to show why they are a dominant line and shutdown line.

Richmond will now wait to see who they play in the gold medal game as they have clinched a spot in the championship. They will either play the Peguis Juniors, Saskatoon Royals or Okotoks Bisons. Richmond will play one more game against the Manitoba Representative Peguis Juniors(Manitoba, KJHL) tonight at 6pm pacific time and 8pm central time, You can follow our twitter www.twitter.com/R_Sockeyes for live game updates.
